Being able to sketch well takes care of all the drawing problems which so often plague our paintings.
Whether you're an oil painter, sculptor, illustrator, plein air painter, graphic designer, water colour painter, whatever medium you use, or whatever area your speciality is in the arts, or even if you're a student or amateur, being able to SKETCH is the foundation of anything you create in the representational arts.
All classes will be online and you can watch it from the comfort of your home.

Meet your host!
Adebanji Alade is the President of The Royal Institute of Oil Painters. He is also a member of the Chelsea Art Society, an honorary member of the Society of Graphic Fine Artists and a member of the British Plein Air Painters.
Adebanji has written three books, “The Addictive Sketcher” and “Addictive” and his latest book titled "Painting People and Places" which launched in January 2024.
He is a powerful portrait, figurative and landscape painter. Adebanji presents art documentaries on the One Show for the BBC. He teaches at the Heatherley School of Fine Art and the Art Academy, London. He also does talks, demonstrations and workshops for schools, colleges and art societies.
Sketch Week Schedule
March 3rd - 7th, 2025 | 2.30pm EST, 7.30pm UK
Day 1: Portraits
3rd March - 2.30pm EST, 7.30pm UK
We’ll be starting off with simple techniques I use to sketch people. We will focus on:
- Angles - seeing internal and external angles in the portrait so that you can sketch it effectively.
- Broadstrokes - using the broadside of the pencil to create strokes that make your sketches look like paintings in black and white.
- Shading techniques-How I use different methods to shade and bring out the form and character of the subjects.
Day 2: People/Figures
4th March - 2.30pm EST, 7.30pm UK
I’ll be sharing simple techniques I use to sketch people.
The focus will be first on:
- Blind contour - how I train my eyes to see what I'm sketching.
- Broadstrokes - how I use the side of a pencil to make big, soft strokes that bring your drawings to life
- Shading techniques - How I use different methods to shade, that make your pictures look real and full of character
Day 3: Landscapes
5th March - 2.30pm EST, 7.30pm UK
On the second day I’ll be sharing simple techniques I use to make a landscape look lively and interesting. The focus will be:
- Seeing the big shapes quickly so it's easier to sketch
- Broadstrokes - using the broadside of the pencil to create strokes that make your sketches look like paintings in black and white
- Understanding how to sketch very convincing looking trees
- Shading techniques - How I use different methods to shade and bring out the different elements in the landscape
Day 4: Animals
6th March - 2.30pm EST, 7.30pm UK
I'll teach you how to sketch animals in a way that makes your drawings look amazing. You'll learn how to:
- Pick a great picture with good light and shade
- Use angles to simplify the subject matter so it's easier to sketch
- Find simple shapes in the animal, like circles or triangles, to make drawing easier.
- Use the side of your pencil to make big marks that help your sketch come to life.
- Use hatching and curvy hatches to add lines that bring out the form and structure of your sketches
Day 5: Bonus session and questions & answers session
7th Match - 2.30pm EST, 7.30pm UK
Prepare to be delighted by the surprise topic in this session as we round up Sketch Week.

Don't worry, the replays will be available after each session on a special link which will be emailed to you and all replays will be available until midnight Friday, March 14th, 2024.
Can I get longer access to the replays?
Sure! We are offering unlimited access to Sketch Week replays when you enroll in The Addictive Sketchers Movement. You will get the opportunity to enroll during Sketch Week.
Where will the live sessions take place?
Sessions will take place online. Details will be emailed to you closer to the time.
What materials do I need for sketch week?
I will send you a comprehensive list of materials that we will be using for Sketch Week when you sign up for the classes.

What is your refund policy?
As Sketch Week (5 live lessons) is a digital event delivered in real time on YouTube, all sales are final, and refunds are not available. Once a lesson is delivered live, it cannot be taken back.
Do I need experience to join?
You should be able to draw basic shapes like circles, rectangles, triangles.
How can I continue getting lessons from you after Sketch Week ends?
I will be opening up enrollment to my private membership (The Addictive Sketchers Movement) for a limited time during Sketch Week so you can continue getting lessons from me. We are only allowing new members to join until Friday, March 14th, 2025. After this time, you will have to wait until a future date when we open up enrollment again.
