One Day Workshop: Everything I Know About How To Paint Landscapes 

Spend a day with Adebanji Alade learning the techniques of landscape painting!

What You Will Learn On The Day:

  • How to scale your paintings to effectively transfer them in proportion on your painting surface. 
  • How to quickly sketch the major shapes from the scale grids. 
  • The power of a convincing monochromatic underpainting 
  • The ability to see big shapes and mass or block them in 
  • The power of lean to fat in the painting process 
  • Using your memory and intuition to paint the poetry of the scene and not just a copy of the picture.
  • Pulling the painting together to make it harmonious and convincing. 
  • How to make abstract shapes and marks that make the painting sing.
  • Using brushstrokes to depict form, structure and movement. 
  • Colour mixing with the brush to help you paint with fluidity and finesse. The method of putting convincing details, what to avoid and knowing when to stop.

The Venue

Chelsea Art Academy Lots Rd, Chelsea, London SW10 0AB

Transport: The Nearest Stations are Imperial Wharf, Fulham Broadway and Sloane Square. 

Buses: 11, 22 and C3 are the best. The nearest stops are Lots Road or Chelsea Worlds End Health Centre. 

Tea, coffee and buiscuits provided. 

Bring your packed lunch. Theres a nice place to eat near the school called, “Lots Road Pub”. There’s also a TESCO around the area. 



Frequestly Asked Questions

Where else can I have my bonus painting session with Adebanji? This must be done in London.  

Would the bonus session with Adebanji last forever? No, it expires 30 days from the date of the workshop.  

If I can't make it, will I get a refund? There is a strict no refunds policy as extensive time, effort, preparation and care has gone into preparing this workshop, so please make sure you can attend before you commit.

Do I have to bring my own easel? There'll be easels in the art room but if you have a portable one that suits you, you can.  

Can I bring my own picture to paint from? Yes, but make sure it is proportional to the surface you'll be using. For example a 6" x 8" picture works well for a 12" x 16" painting.  

What size of painting surface do I need to bring? For your painting surfaces, pls bring 12" x 16" board/canvas or any size that you are comfortable with, but nothing smaller than 12" x 16".

Would you have pictures that I can paint from? Yes, there will be very interesting pictures you can paint from that make for good paintings.  

Are there places around to buy lunch? Yes, there's Lots Road Pub, they do good food and there's a TESCO around the area.  

What other workshops are available? I'll be doing Urban Landscape, Portrait & Figure, Plein Air, and also I'll have special sketching days out on the trains. If you'd like details, contact me at adebanji@sketchinspiration.com.  

Is there free parking around the Chelsea Academy? No but there are paid parking meters, it's approximately £4 per hour.

About Adebanji Alade 

Adebanji is a dynamic, motivational and inspirational artist! He represents the force of life that gives anyone who comes in contact with him a jolt and a spark!  

He paints and sketches from life and from photographic references. He mainly loves to capture the spark of life in anything he portrays.  

He is popularly known as the "Addictive Sketcher" as he can be often seen sketching endlessly in public places and on public transport.  

He is an award winning artist, one of his most recent awards was the Alan Gourley Memorial Award for a painting of outstanding merit at The Royal Institute of Oil Painters Annual Exhibition in 2017.
